Thank you for your interest in the role of Specialist Subject Teacher - DT at Edge Grove. This is a, part-time position starting on 20th April 2026 .

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent teamwork skills whilst being a creative and original thinker able to use their initiative. They will be passionate about planning and developing an exciting and challenging DT curriculum to enable all children achieve the best possible outcomes and fulfil their potential. They will be resilient and flexible in approach to problems and possess strong reasoning, problem-solving and ideation skills. They will work with ambition and aspiration. The successful candidate may have previous experience of working in independent schools, but this role is equally open to applicants who have never taught in independent schools. They will enjoy engaging with prospective, current and former pupils, teaching and non-teaching staff, parents and governors. They will demonstrate excellent administration, leadership, organisational and communication skills, be able to multitask effectively in a busy and demanding environment, have a high level of emotional intelligence and empathy and be able to work effectively with all stakeholders at all times. 

In Design & Technology (D&T), our curriculum seamlessly integrates cutting-edge digital technology, hands-on building, and innovative thinking. These skills extend beyond the confines of the classroom, enriching learning experiences across various subjects. By applying theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios, pupils develop a profound understanding of the interconnectedness of the world.

 From comprehending material properties to exploring advanced manufacturing techniques, such as 3D printing, pupils delve into the reasons behind the design and production of everyday products. D&T empowers pupils to thrive in the future by nurturing creative thinking and problem-solving skills, fostering both independent and collaborative approaches.

In addition to Product Design and Textiles taught as part of the D&T curriculum, our focus extends to the exciting realm of Food Technology, where a dedicated food room becomes a vibrant laboratory for culinary exploration. Here, pupils explore the principles of nutrition and health, gaining practical cooking experience whilst preparing a diverse array of cultural dishes.

In D&T, we inspire a spirit of exploration and resilience, urging pupils to be creative and employ a mind-set of innovation. We are committed to cultivating their minds, guiding them on the path to becoming skilful designers and technologists. Through dynamic and interactive learning experiences, we ignite their creative potential and foster practical skills crucial for the evolving landscape.
