About this Role

Roundwood Primary School in Harpenden is looking for co-opted governors to join our friendly and supportive Governing Board. This voluntary role is important, varied and valuable and has a great deal of impact.

Roundwood Primary is an inclusive and welcoming school in the north of Harpenden.  Whilst the level of academic achievement at the school is high and we are lucky to have great indoor and outdoor learning facilities,  the school focuses on providing a broad and balanced education, fostering creativity, wellbeing, curiosity and a love of learning amongst their pupils.  This is a partnership between the school, the children, our staff, families, the community and our governors.

Our governors work closely with the team at school to help every child reach their full potential whilst also enjoying their time with us. Governors do not need to be experts in the field of education - what you do need is an interest in the school and the welfare of its pupils, enthusiasm, commitment to making a positive contribution to the school and having the time available to get involved.

As a governor, your role is vital to the running of the school and you are responsible for developing a vision and strategy for the school; overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent; holding the school  to account to ensure that every pupil has the best possible education; and engaging with pupils, staff, parents and the school community to understand their views.

For more information about being a school governor please follow this link to the National Governance Association. Be a school governor or trustee - National Governance Association (nga.org.uk)

Our meetings are held in the evenings and are currently a mixture of face to face and virtual. There are six meetings per year. You will have access to a full training program and will be supported by a more experienced governor whilst you become familiar with the role and our school. Training can be undertaken via eLearning modules, face to face sessions and online courses.

If you are interested in this role and would like to find out more please come and visit our welcoming school and meet the Headteacher and Chair of Governors.  Please call the school office on 01582 460756 or email the school office on admin@roundwoodprimary.herts.sch.uk.

We have a strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.  A successful appointment will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and appropriate references.

Roundwood Primary School is an actively inclusive and anti-racist organisation. We are committed to equality of opportunity for all and applications from individuals are encouraged regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, race, religion or belief and marriage and civil partnership status.
