We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher to join our Internal Alternative Provision (IAP). This is a specialist role working with pupils who have SEND/SEMH needs. You'll play a vital part in helping these pupils overcome barriers and either reintegrate into mainstream classes or transition successfully to specialist provision
What we're looking for in our IAP teacher:
- Experience or strong interest in working with pupils with SEND/SEMH needs
- Patience, resilience and emotional intelligence
- Ability to build trusting relationships with vulnerable pupils
- Skills in de-escalation and therapeutic behaviour management
- Commitment to understanding that behaviour is communication
- Flexibility to adapt teaching approaches and curriculum to individual needs
- Collaborative approach to working with families and external agencies
What will the role involve?
- Teaching small groups or individuals with complex needs
- Delivering a flexible, personalised curriculum (including pre-formal and semi-formal pathways)
- Implementing behaviour support plans and individual education plans
- Working closely with SENCo, pastoral team, and external professionals
- Supporting pupils' social and emotional development alongside academic progress
- Monitoring progress using a range of measures (not just academic attainment)
- Planning for reintegration or transition in collaboration with mainstream colleagues
