About this Role

About the Role

As a Class Teacher at Romans Field School, you will be at the heart of our mission to provide personalised, high-quality education that truly meets the needs of every pupil. Your role will involve:

·  - Planning and delivering engaging, bespoke lessons using a play-based, total communication approach, incorporating tools such as communication books, signs, symbols, and assistive technology.

·   - Supporting pupils with a wide range of communication styles and physical or sensory needs, helping them to regulate behaviour, build independence, and develop confidence.

·      - Working closely with parents, carers, and a multidisciplinary team to create tailored learning experiences that promote progress across all areas.

·      - Embedding positive behaviour management strategies informed by trauma and attachment principles.

·      - Contributing to curriculum development and whole-school priorities that enhance Reading, Writing, Maths and pupil engagement.

·   - Participating actively in the wider life of the school and federation, embracing opportunities for professional growth and leadership development.

 About You

You are someone who brings warmth, patience and resilience to your teaching practice. You understand that communication is multi-faceted – encompassing speech, signs, gestures, facial expressions, and technology – and you adapt your teaching creatively to support children with complex needs. You will:

·      - Have experience working with children with moderate learning difficulties, ASC, SEMH, and physical or sensory needs.

·      - Be confident in using total communication approaches, including Widget and Sign Along.

·      - Be committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment where every pupil feels valued and motivated.

·      - Thrive working collaboratively within a supportive team and wider federation.

·      - Be eager to engage in continuous professional development and contribute to school improvement.

If you’re passionate about supporting children and want to be part of a team that truly makes a difference, we’d love to hear from you!  If you’d prefer to speak to someone directly, please don’t hesitate to call us. We also warmly welcome visits — come and see what we’re all about!

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils. All posts are offered subject to enhanced DBS checks and appropriate references. All posts are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

The school is an equal opportunities employer and is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be expected to undertake an Enhanced DBS check. The Governors take child protection extremely seriously and all references offered will be followed up.

Online check will be completed for shortlisted candidates.  If you do not have the formal qualifications specified but can demonstrate skills or experience of equivalent standards we would be interested in your application
