Stony Dean School 

Stony Dean School, Amersham, is a highly successful specialist SEN secondary school and sixth form provision for pupils aged 11–18. Supporting students with communication and interaction needs, as well as social, emotional and mental health difficulties and additional learning needs, the school provides a nurturing, structured and inclusive environment. We are seeking a Learning Support Assistant with strong interpersonal skills who is keen to develop professionally. The role involves working closely with teachers to enhance the learning experience of small groups of students within the classroom. We welcome applications from both experienced LSAs and those new to the role, offering a comprehensive induction and ongoing support. In return, we ask for flexibility, reliability and a resourceful approach.

The Role 

The post-holder will have a good general education and ideally hold a relevant qualification. You will have experience of working with young people, demonstrating the ability to build positive relationships and show empathy, alongside a willingness to develop professionally and take on additional responsibilities where appropriate.

What we are looking for:

  • Experience working with children or young people (ideally within an SEN setting)
  • A patient, supportive and flexible approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A willingness to undertake training and develop within the role
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • Range 2 but Range 3 offered if prepared to lead some lessons. 
  • Full time ideally but part time / job share would be considered. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support staff in the organisation and smooth running of the classroom, ensuring all pupils’ needs are met
  • Assist teachers in delivering lessons, including supporting individuals, small groups, or whole-class activities
  • Work independently (under guidance) to deliver targeted interventions or small group learning
  • Contribute to curriculum planning and assessment alongside teaching staff
  • Help develop and maintain high-quality learning resources tailored to individual pupil needs
  • Undertake duties outside the classroom, including break and lunchtime supervision
  • Attend staff meetings, INSET days, parents’ evenings and other school events
  • Participate in ongoing training and maintain a record of professional development
  • Contribute to maintaining high standards of performance and behaviour across the school
  • Support the review and implementation of school policies and procedures
  • Maintain accurate records of activities and pupil support where required
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Headteacher
