About this Role

School Governor Vacancy at Oakley CE Combined School

Are you looking for a rewarding way to contribute to your community? Oakley CE Combined School is seeking dedicated individuals to join our Governing Body. We are looking for people with a passion for helping our school thrive, and you don’t need a background in education to be a valuable asset.

The Role of a School Governor

Our Governing Body plays a crucial role in ensuring the success of our school. Our key responsibilities include:

• Setting a clear vision, ethos, and strategic direction for the school.

• Holding the headteacher, Mrs Maskell, accountable for the educational performance of the school and its pupils.

• Overseeing the school’s financial performance and ensuring its money is well spent.

Being a governor involves more than just meetings. We take a strategic view of the school's operations and actively participate in the community, including through classroom learning walks to observe teaching methods and student progress. This provides a first hand view of our teachers’ dedication and our pupils’ progress.

Who We're Looking For

Every governor brings a unique set of skills to the board. Our current governors have diverse backgrounds, including finance, nursing, health and safety, and the armed services. I, for instance, used my personal experience with my two children, who required SEND support, to become the

SEND Governor and ensure our provision is as effective as possible.

We believe that anyone can contribute valuable insights. For example, a driving instructor's skills in clear communication, empathy, and a safety-focused approach are exactly what we need.

Commitment and Training

Becoming a governor is a commitment, but it is also a rewarding one. You will receive full training to ensure you have the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the role. We need your help to continue providing the best for our pupils.

If you are interested in learning more, please get in touch with Tim Kourdi, Chair of Governors, by email at tkourdi@oakley.bucks.sch or by phone at 01844 238364 to speak with the Head Teacher, Helen Maskell.
