About this Role

Responsible to: Head of Year 

Hours of Work:                

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  •  Support pupils eating food, ensuring that good table manners are adhered to
  • Serve food for the children, taking into account any allergies/intolerances
  • Clear tables when lunch is finished 
  • Escort pupils to and from the dining area, as necessary 
  • Report to the classroom teacher/ leader any child whose diet may give rise for concern 
  • Devise and initiate constructive play opportunities for children when required 
  • Engage with children during play, ensuring that they play safely and positively
  • Supervise children from Year 1 to Year 6 at breaktimes, ensuring needs and behaviours are supported, as per school policy  
  • Develop age-appropriate social skills in children 
  • Follow school procedures for first aid and/ or administering managing an illness
  • Liaise effectively and professionally with staff and teachers, as required 
  • To set an example to all children by modelling kindness, diversity and respect  
  • To report any concerns about children to the appropriate staff members 
  • Attend training and meetings, as required 

    Person Specification and Qualifications: 

    Essential 

    • Experience of working with children 
    • An understanding of Child Protection and Safeguarding 
    • Well-presented, committed and professional  
    • Responsive and flexible to changing priorities. Work as part of a team with shared responsibility  
    • Good communicator, able to build effective working relationships with colleagues and managers
    • Interacting with the children and participating with enthusiasm in their fun activities

    Desirable:

    • Current paediatric first aid certificate 
    • Knowledge and understanding of EAL and SEN
    • A broad understanding of different pedagogies and when to use them in practice
    • Previous setting experience
