Job Title:                        Gap Year Sports Coach

Responsible to:          Head of Boys’ Games,/Head of Girls’ Games/Head of Swimming

 Suitable for:                Enthusiastic local person with a passion for sports, looking to spend a year out working with highly motivated children on the sports field

The Sports Gap plays an important role in assisting the PE/Games department in administering and delivering outstanding PE, Games, and swimming lessons to our pupils from Nursery to Year 6.

The successful candidate will have played and have good knowledge of one or more of the core sports (boys' football, rugby, cricket, and girls' hockey, netball, cricket) as well as other sports (e.g., tennis, athletics, basketball, badminton, dance, gymnastics, etc.) and swimming. An ability to teach swimming would be an advantage, but is not essential.

Hours of Work:

Monday to Friday (inclusive):             8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Working 41 weeks a year.

 There will be the opportunity to help with holiday clubs as an extra.




 Job Description:

·         To work alongside the Head of Boys’ and Girls’ Games, as well as other PE, Games and swimming staff

·         To help in setting up and preparing for Games, PE and swimming lessons, as required

·         To help in setting up and preparing for school matches

·         To undertake administrative and organisational tasks within the sports department

·         To undertake a number of duties in the school at break/lunch times as the Deputy Head sets out in the Duty Rota

·         To play a full role in supporting the ethos of St Piran’s at all times

·         To be in school during the normal working day but also to assist at other times when required


Person Specification:

·        A well-motivated and enthusiastic young person who is prepared to play an important role in sport, as well as the whole life of St Piran’s School

·        To have qualifications in coaching, or good experience in the playing and refereeing of the main sports

·        To have an awareness of the teaching of PE and swimming within a school environment

·        A person who can show initiative and work independently yet also be prepared to work as part of a team

·        The ability to respond to a situation as it evolves and be prepared to offer help as needed

·        The ability to teach swimming would be an advantage, but is not an essential requirement
