About this Role

Location: Bedford Modern School, Bedford

Contract: Fixed Term, Part Time

Start Date: 27 July 2026

Bedford Modern School (BMS) is a thriving HMC independent co-educational day school for students aged 7-18. Our community is a friendly, happy and supportive one and all of the 350 staff members, spanning both teaching and non-teaching roles, help to make BMS a very special place to work.

We are looking to appoint enthusiastic and committed Rowing Assistants to join our successful and well-established Holiday Course Rowing programme on a fixed-term, part-time basis. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals with a strong background in rowing and a genuine interest in working with young people. It’s particularly well suited to those considering a future career in teaching, coaching, or sports development.

As part of the role, you will gain valuable hands-on experience coaching students (Years 7–9) and supporting the day-to-day running of the school’s rowing courses. You will work under the guidance of the Rowing Course Leader and alongside a dynamic and experienced team in a supportive and high-performing environment.

This is a fixed term which will end on the 14th August 2026, with hours based on course requirements.

We encourage applications from all communities as we want to have a workforce that reflects the social, cultural and ethnic diversity of our students.

Closing Date: Monday 22nd June 2026 midday

Interview Date: Wednesday 24th June 2026

Should you wish to discuss the role further, please contact Mark Bavington, Director of Rowing for an informal conversation MBavington@bedmod.co.uk
