About this Role

Bedford Modern School is an HMC Independent Co-educational Day School located on the outskirts of Bedford. Our facilities are excellent and include a separate Junior School, dedicated Sixth Form building, purpose-built Science Centre opened in 2017 and extensive sports facilities. We offer a premium education, with a wide and varied curriculum, where the intellectual need of each pupil is given priority.

We are looking to appoint an experienced, proactive and self-motivated Head of Health, Safety and Compliance to lead and oversee all aspects of health, safety and regulatory compliance at Bedford Modern School. This is a pivotal role in ensuring the school meets and exceeds its legal, regulatory and best practice obligations.

You will take a strategic lead in promoting a strong health and safety culture across the school, supporting staff to meet their responsibilities and driving continuous improvement. You will provide expert advice, monitor compliance, and report on performance, working closely with the Senior Leadership Team to embed effective risk management processes.

Please note, we reserve the right to close this vacancy early should we receive a high volume of applications. We therefore encourage interested candidates to apply as soon as possible. Applications will be reviewed as they are received. Suitable candidates may be contacted before the closing date and invited to participate in an initial telephone conversation as part of the recruitment process.

Closing date: Thursday 2nd July 2026 (12pm)

Interview date: Week commencing Monday 6th July 2026

If you would like to find out more about the role before applying, please contact Jane Holliday (JHolliday@bedmod.co.uk), who may be able to arrange a call back to discuss the position and application process in more detail.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The school may carry out online searches on shortlisted applicants.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. The school is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions on a self-declaration form in advance of attending an interview.
