About this Role

School Lead Nurse

Location: Bedford Modern School, Bedford Contract: Part Time, Term Time Only +2 weeks, Permanent

Hours: 37.5 hours per a week

Start Date: September 2026

Bedford Modern School (BMS) is a thriving HMC independent co-educational day school for students aged 7-18. Our community is a friendly, happy and supportive one and all of the 350 staff members, spanning both teaching and non-teaching roles, helping to make BMS a very special place to work.

Bedford Modern School is seeking to appoint a full-time Senior Lead Nurse to work alongside another School Nurse providing nursing care and first aid to all members of the school community along with first aid cover for weekend sports events. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work within a supportive pastoral environment, delivering both immediate and ongoing healthcare in line with NMC guidelines.

The successful candidate will organize and run nurse drop-in clinics, provide first aid and emergency care, and support students with a range of medical needs. Key responsibilities include maintaining accurate medical records, administering treatment, managing first aid provision across the school, and supporting immunisation programmes and clinical safety procedures.

The role also involves promoting health education, offering confidential advice to students, and working closely with parents, academic staff and external healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality, joined-up care. In addition, the post holder will contribute to the wider pastoral support of students, working alongside safeguarding, mental health and SEND teams, as well as supporting school trips and activities.

We encourage applications from all communities as we want to have a workforce that reflects the social, cultural, and ethnic diversity of our students.
