About this Role

Bedford School is seeking a proactive and enthusiastic Compliance & Premises Operative to carry out scheduled compliance testing across the school estate.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the safety, security, and smooth operation of the site. Working as part of the Operations team, you will assist with the day-to-day running of the school estate, helping to maintain high standards throughout.

Experience in a similar role would be advantageous, particularly experience involving compliance or inspection-based testing. Experience working with practical manual handling skills and a proven track record in premises maintenance, would be essential. However, a positive attitude, enthusiasm for a varied role, and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a supportive team are equally important.

This is a full-time post, working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm all year round, including 14 Saturday mornings on a rota basis 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Should you require any further information or have any questions please contact Mark Gould, Facilities Manager at mgould@bedfordschool.org.uk.

Closing Date: 26 May 2026

Interview Date: 2 June 2026

Please note, we reserve the right to close the vacancy early should we receive a sufficient number of suitable applicants.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

The School may carry out online searches on shortlisted applicants. The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.  The School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions on a self-declaration form in advance of attending an interview (including those which are “spent” unless they are “protected” under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.
