About this Role

The Heart of Our School Community

Are you passionate about removing barriers to learning? Do you have the resilience and empathy to support young people through their most challenging moments?

Lealands High School is looking for a dedicated Pastoral Support Manager to join our vibrant team. In this role, you aren't just "managing behavior"—you are building relationships, fostering emotional intelligence, and ensuring every student feels safe, heard, and ready to succeed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Student Wellbeing: Act as the primary point of contact for students requiring emotional or social support.

  • Behavioural Guidance: Implement and manage school behaviour policies, focusing on restorative justice and positive reinforcement.

  • Liaison: Work closely with teachers, parents, and external agencies (Social Care, CAMHS) to create a holistic support network for at-risk pupils.

  • Attendance & Engagement: Monitor attendance patterns and intervene early to re-engage students with their education.

  • Crisis Management: Provide a calm, stable presence during high-pressure situations or student conflicts.

What You Bring to the Team

  • Experience: A proven track record of working with young people, ideally within an educational or youth work setting.

  • Communication: The ability to talk to a frustrated young person, a worried parent, and a busy Headteacher with equal clarity and respect.

  • Resilience: A thick skin and a big heart. You understand that "difficult" behaviour is often a cry for help.

  • Organization: The ability to maintain accurate records and manage a diverse caseload without breaking a sweat.

Why Join Lealands?

We offer a supportive staff environment, professional development opportunities, and the chance to make a tangible difference in the Lealands community.

"We believe that for a student to achieve academically, they must first feel supported personally. This role is the bridge between the two."

Visits from prospective applicants are welcome and can be arranged by contacting Mrs Sarah O'Connor (HR Administrator) on 01582 611600 or email – recruitment@lealands.luton.sch.uk

Applicants for this public-facing post will need to demonstrate the ability to converse and provide effective help or advice fluently in spoken English.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure Barring Service.

CVs will not be accepted for any posts based in schools
