About this Role

Someries Junior School

Part Time Teacher – two to three days a week (0.4 - 0.6 FTE  - to be confirmed at interview)

 to start September 2026

Main/UPR -  Maternity Leave Cover Contract

Would you like to teach enthusiastic pupils in a supportive and caring small-school environment?

To cover leadership time for the rest of the school year, we are seeking a high-quality part time teacher to add to our high-quality team -   someone who supports children’s personal development and whose teaching results in good academic progress. We look for staff who will model our values of aspiration, kindness, cooperation, respect, responsibility and tolerance.

This is a rare opportunity to join our stable and supportive staff. We will value your professionalism and appreciate your dedication to your class.

The successful candidate will class share for two days per week, with the possible option of an additional day a week in another class to cover leadership time.

In last academic year's staff survey, 100% of staff agreed that they are proud to be a member of staff at the school and that the school has a culture that encourages calm and orderly conduct and is aspirational for all pupils. Teachers are supported by experienced teaching assistants, an effective pastoral team and a capable admin team.

We require a teacher who is confident to teach across the Key Stage 2 age range.

This role may be ideal for someone looking to return to teaching  or wanting a new challenge in a supportive environment.

A chance to flourish and excel

Are you inspired and passionate about junior school education? Are you the one who can inspire our children do even more than they think they can?

It is our School Vision that:

  • We work together to become the best versions of ourselves.
  • As responsible citizens, we create a better future.

We need a great Key Stage 2 teacher to join the team in our small and friendly junior school to help us make this vision a reality for the children here.

We welcome applications from experienced primary teachers who are looking for a school where they can flourish and further enhance their skills as a valued part of a supportive team.

Our School

We are situated near the Hertfordshire borders on the outskirts of Luton, an area that offers the conveniences of a modern town and the green spaces of the countryside. It is near transport connections by road, rail and air to London, the UK and beyond.

We are a small two-form entry junior school - the smallest in Luton -  and so our school has a ‘family feel’ to it. However, we benefit from an expansive site including large playing fields for our children to enjoy. In September 2026 we will take a third form in Year 3 to accommodate a ‘bulge year’. We work in collaboration with our outstanding partner infant school to ensure that children benefit from the Someries experience from Nursery to Year 6.

Teachers benefit from training and networking opportunities to meet their professional needs.

The school offers:

enthusiastic pupils who love learning

an ethos of team working and mutual support

supportive parents, carers and governors

senior leaders that create a culture where all are valued and can thrive

a good record of achievement (in line with national attainment)

As a teacher at our school you will:

be given the freedom to focus on what you are in the job for – teach!

use your drive, enthusiasm and commitment to enhance our school further

use your initiative, be innovative and play your role in a team

have a dedicated afternoon each week alongside the other teacher in your year group for planning

be friendly, caring and hardworking, modelling our values in all that you do.

We only recruit teachers who are passionate about making a difference to children’s lives - professionals who are keen to keep on improving. If this is you then we would love to meet you! To give you a flavour of life at Someries Juniors we welcome you warmly to visit us for a tour with our head teacher, Jason Hunt.  To arrange this please contact our office manager Dawn Dudley -  on 01582 738810 or admin@someriesjuniorschool.co.uk

For further insight to life at Someries Juniors, please visit our Facebook page or our website at www.someriesjuniorschool.co.uk.  We look forward to meeting you!

Please ensure that you give as a referee your current or most recent head teacher.

Closing Date:    Sunday 26 April (midnight)

Interview Date: week commencing 4 May
