About this Role

We are pleased to offer an opportunity to apply for the role of SEND Teaching Assistant, Pastoral interventions. This role is ideal for a committed colleague looking to further develop their practice and take on additional responsibility in supporting teaching and learning, specifically for pupils with Special Educational Needs in the Harbour.

Purpose of the Role

To support the class teacher in all aspects of teaching and learning, enhancing opportunities for pupils through practical experience, knowledge and initiative.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Supporting teaching and learning for individuals and groups, following agreed lesson plans
  • Promoting pupils’ academic, social and emotional development, including literacy and numeracy
  • Pastoral work with pupils across the school ELSA or equivalent
  • Preparing and using learning resources, including ICT, appropriate to pupil needs
  • Contributing to lesson planning, activity design and target setting
  • Monitoring, recording and assessing pupil progress, including supporting IEPs
  • Supporting behaviour management and maintaining a positive learning environment
  • Supervising groups or whole classes for agreed periods
  • Experience of working collaboratively with colleagues, parents and external professionals
  • Supporting pupils’ care, health and welfare in line with school policies
  • Leading specific learning activities or projects as required
  • Maintaining an organised and purposeful classroom environment

We Are Looking For:

  • A colleague with experience of supporting pupils in a school specialist setting
  • Strong understanding of SEN and inclusive practice
  • The ability to work collaboratively and use initiative
  • A commitment to high standards of pupil support and wellbeing
  • Ability to work on bespoke curriculum for individual needs of complex SEND pupils
