About this Role

Previous applicants need not apply

We are seeking to recruit a friendly and positive Finance and HR Assistant to join the school admin team and continue to provide a welcoming and efficient service to parents/carers, staff, governors, visitors and, most importantly, children who make up our friendly school community.

The Meads is a happy, fun and exciting place to work – we are looking for the best person possible for us, with a 'can do' attitude, so you will need to be highly motivated, committed, energetic and with good qualifications and experience. This could suit someone already working in a school office who is looking for a new challenge.

As a Finance and HR Assistant, under the direction of the School Business Manager, you will assist the school in meeting its obligations and targets in relation to school finance and HR administration.

Whilst the role has core responsibilities, the School Finance Office is a unique environment which makes the role hugely varied on a daily basis, you could be processing  invoices one minute and covering a lunch duty the next!  Therefore, a broad range of personal skills, flexibility and a dynamic positive personality are important.

The successful candidate(s) will:

  •          Be enthusiastic, motivated and able to use their initiative.
  •          Preferably have worked in an education setting.
  •          Have a positive friendly and caring approach towards staff, children and the community.
  •          Be professional, organised, flexible and able to work calmly under pressure.
  •          Be able to efficiently manage, prioritise and organise a varied and demanding workload.
  •          Have a good understanding of how a school works.
  •          Have excellent interpersonal skills.
  •          Be an outstanding team player.
  •          Have excellent IT, numeracy and literacy skills.

The post is for 30 hours per week, term-time plus 5 additional days for INSET and a further additional 5 days as agreed by the School Business Manager.

A working day could be as follows:

Monday to Friday:          9.15am – 3.45pm or 9.00am - 3.30pm (30-minute unpaid lunch break) These hours may be negotiable for the right candidate.

Please refer to the attached application pack for further information and use the Job Description / Person Specification to aid you in your supporting statement as this will be used to shortlist candidates. Relevant qualifications and training are an advantage but not essential.

Visits to the school are very welcome and highly encouraged; In the meantime, please visit our website –  www.meads.luton.sch.uk – to find out more about us. Please call our School Business Manager, Miss Ansell, on 01582 490905 or email finance@themeads.primaryluton.co.uk to arrange a visit.

We reserve the right to interview and appoint and close this vacancy early if we receive sufficient applications for the role. Therefore, an early application is strongly advised. You will be notified, via My New Term, as soon as possible after, if you have been shortlisted for the post.

Please note that if you are shortlisted for this role, or an alternative role, an online name search will be undertaken, as per Keeping Children Safe in Education.  The purpose of the search is to help identify any incidents or issues that have happened, and are publicly available online, which the school or college might want to explore with you at interview.  Further information on how online searches will be undertaken can be found in our schools Recruitment and Selection Policy.

Applicants for this public-facing post will need to demonstrate the ability to converse, and provide effective help or advice, fluently in spoken English.

CVs will not be accepted for any posts based in schools. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment.

Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
