About this Role

St Matthew’s Primary School is looking for a SENDCo Assistant for September 2026.

Whilst St Matthew’s is one of the largest primary schools in Luton, it has a calm, personal and happy atmosphere. We are a big school with small community habits and pride ourselves on everyone’s personal, academic and professional well-being and this is a cornerstone of our ethos. The sense of being in an ambitious, supportive family is often commented on by children, parents, staff and visitors alike.

Our inclusion work is ever growing and we have decided to add this post into our Inclusion Team to work alongside our Assistant Head for Inclusion and SENDCo.

Finding the right people to work with our children is paramount. So if you want children to feel safe, be happy, be excited, love coming to school and to progress each and every day no matter what their starting points, and you want to work with a wholly child centred leadership team, please apply.

From our new SENDCo Assistant we ask you to:

  • Understand and believe that all children can make progress with the right provision, teaching and care.

  • Have extensive experience of supporting children with additional needs.

  • Be a positive, optimistic and proactive team player

  • Have excellent administration and organisational skills

  • Have a demonstrable commitment to your own ongoing professional development

In return we can offer you:

  • A truly child centred, friendly and holistic school that values inclusion and diversity

  • A strong team and school community

  • A safe and nurturing environment for our staff as well as our pupils

  • A supportive and solution focused Team Leader and SLT who are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of all children

  • A true sense of social and moral purpose that the whole staff live by

As well as:

  • Dedicated specialist teams to support the work of all teaching teams

  • Lots of extra-curricular activities and inclusive trips for the children

  • Career Progression pathways

  • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme

  • Comprehensive whole school CPD programme

  • Comprehensive individual CPD programme

  • Onsite parking

  • A well-equipped staff room, access to school lunches and a central location with many amenities in very short walking distance

We all know a picture speaks a thousand words, so a visit to St Matthew’s is the only way to fully understand why you should want to work here…people who step over our threshold are amazed by the atmosphere, calmness and vibrancy of our school.

If we sound like the school for you, please call for an informal chat about this post, arrange a visit or simply apply now.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS). CVs will not be accepted for any posts based in schools
