About this Role

Cansfield High School is seeking a skilled Primary Specialist Teacher to join our dedicated team. This is an exciting new role designed to support students as they transition from primary to secondary education, particularly those with Cognition and Learning difficulties.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, stage-appropriate learning experiences for students who are currently unable to fully access mainstream education. Many of these learners are working at Key Stage 1 or Key-Stage 2 levels and require tailored teaching approaches to build confidence, engagement, and strong academic foundations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that meet the needs of students with significant learning challenges.
  • Foster a nurturing and inclusive environment that promotes confidence and independence.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure smooth transition and continuity of learning.
  • Monitor progress and adapt strategies to support individual development.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is a qualified teacher with experience in primary education.
  • Has a strong understanding of SEND, particularly Cognition and Learning needs.
  • Is passionate about helping students overcome barriers and achieve their potential.
  • Demonstrates creativity, resilience, and a commitment to inclusive education.

A creative approach to teaching and an ability to enthuse others would be highly valued. The successful person will need to demonstrate a clear philosophy for the learning of all children; able to demonstrate proven communication skills; able to offer practical strategies that enable children of all abilities to achieve their full potential. The successful candidate should be able to communicate a deep and genuine interest in finding ways to involve young people in learning.

Visits to the school are welcomed and encouraged. Should you wish to arrange a tour of the school, please contact Karen Smith, Office Manager, on 01942 727391 or by email at k.smith@cansfield.wigan.sch.uk
