About this Role

First Steps at Cansfield Nursery, based at Cansfield High School, is seeking a caring, enthusiastic and dedicated Nursery Practitioner to join our team on a fixed‑term basis to cover maternity leave. Working 30 hours per week during term time and 22.5 hours per week during the school holidays, this is a fantastic opportunity to work in a nurturing early‑years environment where every child’s development and wellbeing is at the heart of what we do.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise groups of children — including those with additional needs — ensuring their safety, wellbeing and access to stimulating learning activities.
• Establish and maintain an engaging, age‑appropriate play and learning environment.
• Support the implementation of agreed work programmes with individuals and small groups.
• Promote positive behaviour, maintain good order and ensure all activities comply with relevant health and safety legislation.
• Work collaboratively with the Nursery Manager and the wider team to deliver high‑quality childcare and early education.

Essential Qualification & Experience

• Level 3 qualification in Childcare or equivalent is essential.
• Experience working within an early years setting.
• Confidence in supporting children with a range of needs.

About You

We are looking for someone who:
• Is warm, patient, and passionate about early years education.
• Can create a positive and engaging learning atmosphere.
• Understands safeguarding, child development and health and safety requirements.
• Works well as part of a team and communicates effectively with children, colleagues and parents.

If you would like any further information then please don't hesitate to contact Mrs Louise Wareing, Nursery Manager - 01942 711964.

If you are committed to supporting young children to learn, grow and thrive, we would love to hear from you.
