Penn Fields School is a vibrant and nurturing specialist provision committed to supporting children and young people with a wide range of special educational needs. We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Student Engagement Team Member to join our expanding pastoral team.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about improving the lives of young people, supporting their emotional development, and helping them overcome barriers to learning. The role is central to ensuring students are regulated, supported, and ready to learn throughout the school day.

The Role

As a Student Engagement Team Member, you will:

  • Deliver a range of 1:1 and small-group pastoral interventions, including mentoring, emotional regulation support, restorative approaches, and swimming sessions.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with students, acting as a trusted and consistent adult.
  • Support students during unstructured times such as playtime and lunchtime.
  • Work proactively with colleagues, the Safeguarding Team, parents/carers, and multi-agency professionals to share information and coordinate support plans.
  • Contribute to a trauma-informed, restorative school culture.
  • Maintain accurate records, monitor progress, and help develop intervention strategies.
  • Respond flexibly to emerging needs, including de-escalation and positive handling where required (training provided).
  • Participate in staff CPD, including co-delivering training alongside the Student Engagement Team Lead.

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) and Level 2 English & Maths.
  • Experience supporting learners with SEND, particularly Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN).
  • Strong teamwork, communication and record-keeping skills.
  • Emotional resilience and the ability to deliver pastoral interventions effectively.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, equality, and the wellbeing of all pupils.
  • Willingness to undertake training in Positive Handling and First Aid.

Desirable:

  • Experience of trauma-informed practice.
  • Understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and annual review processes.
  • Experience using restorative approaches in schools.

Why Join Penn Fields School?

  • A supportive staff team who care deeply about our students.
  • A school committed to professional development and staff wellbeing.
  • Opportunities to make a visible, meaningful difference to children and young people every day.
  • A positive, inclusive, and forward-thinking environment.

Safeguarding

Penn Fields School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check in line with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order).
