We
are looking for an Assistant Headteacher – Head of Sixth Form with the passion
and enthusiasm to make a positive impact within the Sixth Form and the School
as a whole.

The Sixth Form is a well-known, locally valued success, oversubscribed
year on year, and delivering fantastic outcomes for our students whether on L2
or L3 courses. We are proud of our offer
and of our achievements. As a school
sixth form, we see our mission as providing an ambitious, safe and supportive
option for our students. Our aim is that
all our students will stay for the 7 years of the formal education. We are ultimately responsible for guiding
them into either University life, further training or employment. We are hugely successful in doing all three!
Successful candidates will have:
- Experience of working with or within a Sixth form
setting
- Have excellent
interpersonal and organisational skills
- Have excellent understanding of the issues facing
post sixteen education and the educational landscape around funding, courses
and accountability
- An excellent
understanding of teaching and learning
- The ability to
inspire and motivate students
Responsibilities for all teachers:
- Meet the relevant Teachers’ Standards

Extended Leadership Responsibilities:
- To provide an inspirational role model for staff and students
- To effectively communicate and demonstrate the core values of the
school
- To develop an ethos of scholarship, character building and success
for students and staff
- To provide a rich and varied educational and cultural experiences
to develop students’ character and attitudes
- To contribute to strategic improvement planning, implementation and
evaluation
- Be accountable for aspects of the school improvement plan and
school self-evaluation including reporting to Governors as required
- To provide pastoral and disciplinary support both inside and
outside the classroom, throughout the school day
- To monitor and evaluate classroom practice, student progress and
behaviour
- Collaborate with partners to develop system wide improvements
- To participate in leadership meetings as required
Specific responsibilities of this role:
- Provide strategic leadership of the Sixth Form, including setting
aspirational targets for both academic and pastoral progress
- Regular review of KS5 student progress and implement appropriate
interventions to support any underperformance
- Establish a learning culture which develops independent learners
- To work with and support Sixth Form Tutors
- Work collaboratively and effectively with Higher Education
institutions
- Support the Sixth Form pastoral manager to ensure excellent
attendance, punctuality and conduct of Sixth Form students
- Promote a clear vision for the highest quality teaching and
learning in the Sixth Form
- To encourage students to contribute positively to the life of the
Sixth Form and the wider life of the school
- Ensure that the students are being given effective information,
guidance and opportunities by liaising with the school’s career’s adviser
- Work with the other member of the leadership team to ensure that
the Sixth Form curriculum is designed to meet the needs of all its
students
- To develop and deliver a structured and purposeful tutor time and
tutorial programme
- Use data effectively to analyse Sixth Form outcomes
- To create an inspirational learning environment and ethos for our
sixth form students
- To co-ordinate and lead the reporting process for all Sixth Formers
and review reports with students and parents
- To liaise with parents and the wider community to provide support
to students
- To liaise with the school’s Access Project co-ordinator to support
with students’ applications so that they are successful when applying to
competitive universities
- Work with the school Access project co-ordinator to ensure students
fully engage with The Access Project
- To line manage the Sixth Form Academic Coach and oversee all
aspects of reference writing, personal statements and the administration of the
UCAS process
- To ensure that the School Leadership Team and key staff are advised
regarding national developments with reference to university policies, careers
and specific areas of Sixth Form curriculum
- To take responsibility for the Sixth Form prospectus, associated
publications and the Sixth Form area of the school website
- To develop and implement effective systems for addressing student
absence, lateness and student conduct
- To oversee the Sixth Form extra-curricular programme
- To oversee the student leadership team in the organisation and
running of charity week
- To oversee the recruitment programme and to ensure the smooth
transition and induction of students into the Sixth Form
- To organise and run the Sixth Form recruitment events as
appropriate
- To work closely with the Headteacher and other members of the
extended leadership in supporting the student leaders across the school,
including the selection of the Head Girl and Head Boy
