About this Role

PE Gap Year Student

Contract: 1-year fixed term (September 2026 – August 2027)

Hours: Monday to Friday, 40.5 hours per week (3 days 8:00–4:00, 2 days 8:00–5:30), 38 weeks per year

Salary: National Minimum Wage (FTE £21,157 aged 18–20 / £24,784 aged 21+; actual £19,211 / £22,504)

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated PE gap year student to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a supportive and ambitious school, committed to nurturing both staff and pupils.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll play an active role in school life, supporting both sport and classroom learning, as follows

  • Assist in delivering PE lessons to pupils aged 4-11
  • Support teaching staff with lesson preparation and classroom activities, particularly in Reception and Key Stage 1
  • Contribute to co-curricular sport and wider school activities
  • Undertake supervision duties and support pupil wellbeing
  • Help prepare resources and maintain classrooms and learning spaces
  • Provide general administrative support to staff
  • Attend fixtures, events, meetings and occasional evening activities

About you

  • You’ll be a motivated and enthusiastic individual, ideally looking to gain experience in education or sport
  • GCSEs in English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build positive relationships
  • A genuine passion for sport and working with children
  • Organised, proactive and able to use your initiative
  • A flexible team player with a positive, ‘can-do’ approach
  • Awareness of safeguarding and commitment to pupil wellbeing
  • Interest in fitness or strength and conditioning is advantageous
