Key Responsibilities
TEACHING & LEARNING
Deliver inspiring and engaging French lessons tailored to the needs of pupils aged 3–13.
Plan, prepare, and assess lessons in line with school expectations.
Promote active participation and enjoyment of language learning.
CURRICULUM & ENRICHMENT
Contribute to the development of the MFL curriculum in collaboration with the Head of MFL.
Participate in cross-curricular initiatives and cultural celebrations that enrich language learning.
Offer or support relevant co-curricular clubs or activities (e.g., Language Club, Cultural Days).
PASTORAL CARE & PUPIL SUPPORT
Support pupils’ well-being and personal development.
Encourage positive behaviour and a respectful learning environment.
Maintain strong communication with colleagues and parents to support progress and engagement.
Person Specification
Qualifications and experience
Essential:
A recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS or equivalent).
A degree in French or a related subject.
Successful experience of teaching French across multiple Key Stages (EYFS to KS2) and ideally KS3.
A track record of delivering high-quality, engaging lessons that support excellent pupil progress.
Commitment to the safeguarding and welfare of children.
Desirable:
Experience of working in a preparatory or independent school environment.
Experience of teaching older year groups, including scholarship or 11+/13+ preparation.
Ability to teach additional languages (e.g., Latin or Spanish).
Evidence of ongoing professional development and subject-specific training.
Skills and competencies
Strong subject knowledge and a passion for French language and culture.
Ability to deliver differentiated, inclusive teaching that meets a range of learner needs.
Confidence in using IT and digital tools to enhance language learning and pupil engagement.
Clear and effective communicator, with strong written and verbal skills.
Ability to develop strong, supportive relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues.
Collaborative team member, willing to share ideas and contribute to whole-school life.
Committed to upholding high standards of professionalism and personal conduct.
Awareness of and sensitivity to the pastoral and academic needs of boys.
