About this Role

Physical Education Teacher

MPS/UPS, Special Needs Allowance

We are Shaftesbury High School – a locally maintained secondary SEND school for 167 students. We are looking to appoint a Physical Education Subject Lead or Teacher, who will focus on supporting physical education across the school. The position would be ideal for a secondary teacher of physical education or a primary physical education specialist.

We are looking to appoint for September 2026.

Shaftesbury is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS Disclosure and a Debarring check.

Due to the departure of the current Physical Education Subject Lead we have an opening for this important position at Shaftesbury High School. Physical Education is a popular subject with students. As the Physical Education Subject Lead you will work closely with the Deputy Headteacher to ensure the continuation of high expectations and an impactful curriculum. You will play a key role in continuing to ensure that Physical education is a curriculum experience valued by students.

This is a wonderful time to join the school. We offer a ‘great place’ to work, an aspirational curriculum, and a committed staff team. We are pleased to have recently been shortlisted as a finalist by nEdEx in the ‘SEND Excellence Award’ category.

Shaftesbury is a school where a rich and meaningful curriculum has clear and thoughtful impact. At Shaftesbury we ensure access to our curriculum to meet the needs of each young person. The Physical Education Lead would be expected to work with external sporting providers to continue to enhance the curriculum offer.

The successful candidate requires experience of teaching physical education to a range of students, including those with SEND. The successful candidate will have high levels of motivation, creativity and enthusiasm to implement the whole school Physical Education Curriculum.

Please ensure your application is tailored to the job description and the Shaftesbury High School curriculum.

Shaftesbury High School is committed to safeguarding, inclusive practice and equal opportunities for all. All job offers will be subject to successful enhanced DBS checks, reference checks, and online checks.

Visits to the school are advised.
