About this Role

Fortismere is a high-attaining, mixed foundation secondary school in Muswell Hill, North London, with a strong reputation for excellence. The school site comprises three main teaching buildings set across a 22 acre campus. We are seeking a skilled, proactive and experienced Assistant Site & Facilities Manager to join our site team.

This is a key operational role supporting the Site & Facilities Manager in delivering a safe, secure, and well-maintained environment for students, staff, visitors, and contractors. You will act as deputy when required, combining hands-on maintenance work with supervision of staff, coordination of contractors, and responsibility for health & safety compliance.

Key responsibilities include day-to-day maintenance, minor repairs, planned preventative maintenance, and regular inspections of buildings and grounds. You will monitor essential services such as heating, lighting, ventilation, and drainage, ensuring efficient operation across the site.

You will play an important role in health and safety compliance, including supporting risk assessments, carrying out fire safety checks, maintaining statutory records, and ensuring safe systems of work are followed. A strong understanding of current health & safety legislation and COSHH is essential.

The role includes supervising site assistants, allocating daily tasks, providing guidance and training, and deputising for the Site & Facilities Manager when required. You will also act as a key holder, responding to alarms and emergencies and ensuring site security at all times. Thee may also be occasional evenings and weekends as required.

Additional duties include liaising with contractors, monitoring quality of works, supporting lettings and school events, assisting with portering and logistics, and maintaining high standards across cleaning, waste management, and external areas.

We are looking for someone with practical maintenance skills, experience in site or facilities work, strong organisational ability, and a proactive, flexible approach.

Fortismere School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All appointments are subject to an enhanced DBS check.
