About this Role

What skills and experience we're looking for

Required for 1 September 2026, the Governors of this successful school seek to appoint a passionate and experienced SENDCo to lead the Special Educational Needs Team.

What we are looking for

·         We are looking to appoint someone who is highly motivated, inspiring and has the vision to make significant difference to the students at St John Fisher. You will be able to work strategically in leading the team to give outstanding provision to our young people.

·         You will have experience of working with students with a range of additional needs and a solid understanding of the SEND provision and agenda both locally and nationally.

·         This role will have a small teaching load therefore you must be a qualified teacher and be expected to fulfil the responsibilities as a teacher.

·         You will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team, manage the SEND Team, staff, parents/carers and other professionals to provide high-quality curriculum, teaching and learning and outcomes for all students. This will include high-quality inclusive practices, expertise on interventions, funding applications and compliance with statutory requirements.

·         You will already hold the National SENCO Award or be willing to complete the NPQ for SENDCos within the next few years.

What the school offers its staff

We are a school where the mission statement: ‘I have come that they may have life and have it the full’ is lived out daily. We believe that all students and staff should have the opportunity to flourish and be the best version of themselves.

-          Supportive, committed, caring and friendly community

-          An organisation with the commitment to high quality professional development

-          An organisation who centralises the importance for staff wellbeing

-          A small, welcoming school

-          A dedicated space for SEND

-          On-site parking and access to the canteen

St John Fisher is an 11-18 comprehensive school with a rich Catholic ethos. There are 800 students on roll including the Sixth Form.  The school has excellent facilities and well-equipped rooms.  The school was judged Good by Ofsted in October 2013, November 2017 and June 2023.  It was also judged Outstanding by the Diocese in December 2013, 2018 and again in March 2022.  Visits to the school are welcome.

We are a consistently good school on a journey to outstanding and so this is an exciting time to join us as we build on recent success and continue our drive to raise standards.

Full details and how to apply can be found on the Vacancies section of our website: www.stjohnfisherschool.org.uk
