About this Role

This is your chance to shape inclusion from the ground up.
Lead a brand‑new Enhanced Resource Base, teach inclusively in the main school, and change life chances for children with Autism — every single day.

Why apply now?
Because opportunities like this are rare.
This role gives you the chance to be part of something from the very beginning — helping to establish and lead a new Enhanced Resource Base rooted in inclusion, ambition and belonging, within a school and Trust that genuinely values SEND leadership and invests in getting it right.
You won’t be stepping into a role where systems are already fixed and practice is predetermined. Instead, you will have the professional trust, time and support to shape provision thoughtfully — building culture, routines, curriculum access and partnerships that truly improve children’s lives.
If you are looking for a role where your values, leadership and teaching practice can align — and where you can make a lasting difference from day one — now is the time to apply.

This is the kind of role that comes around once in a career
If you are the sort of teacher who believes inclusion is not an initiative but a way of being…
If you want a role where you can change life chances, not just write plans…
If you’re ready to lead something meaningful, alongside a team who care deeply and think ambitiously…
…then this could be the best job you ever apply for.
Burrough Green CE Primary Academy is a small, warm, values‑led village school with a strong Christian ethos, set in beautiful countryside and rooted in kindness, dignity and community. We are proud of our heritage, but we are also forward‑looking — a school where children thrive because they feel safe, known and inspired, and where adults hold high expectations with deep care.
As part of ACT Multi Academy Trust, we are building something special: a family of schools united by moral purpose, strong collaboration and a commitment to ensuring every child flourishes, whatever their starting point or need.

The role
We are seeking an exceptional SEND Teacher in Charge to lead our Enhanced Resource Base (ERB) for pupils with Autism and Education, Health and Care Plans, opening from September 2026.
This is a pivotal, heart‑of‑the‑school leadership role for someone who believes that:
  • inclusion is lived through everyday teaching and relationships,
  • pupils with SEND deserve belonging, ambition and joy,
  • and strong SEND leadership makes a lasting difference to whole‑school culture.
You will lead the ERB while also holding a teaching commitment within the main school, reflecting our belief that inclusion is everyone’s responsibility and that the most powerful SEND leadership is grounded in classroom practice.

Why this role is extraordinary
Because you won’t be “joining” an ERB that already exists — you will help shape it.
You will have the rare opportunity to:
  • build an ERB culture where pupils are known for who they are, not defined by need
  • establish high‑quality practice from day one — curriculum, routines, communication approaches and inclusion pathways
  • create provision that strengthens the whole school, raising confidence and expertise across every classroom
  • work in genuine partnership with families and professionals to secure meaningful outcomes over time
  • lead inclusion with both ambition and compassion, rooted firmly in the SEND Code of Practice
This is inclusion with purpose. Leadership with heart. Teaching that truly matters.

A role that combines leadership and teaching
A core part of this role is a teaching commitment in the main school, alongside leadership of the ERB.
We see this as a strength — not an add‑on.
It means you will:
  • influence inclusive practice through everyday classroom teaching
  • build continuity and shared ownership between ERB and mainstream provision
  • model adaptive, inclusive teaching across the school
  • be a visible, trusted leader for pupils and staff alike
At Burrough Green, SEND leadership is not separate from teaching — it is rooted in it.

Who this role is for
This role is for a SEND practitioner who believes that inclusion is about belonging, relationships and access to learning — not labels or separation.
You may already be leading SEND provision, an ERB, or whole‑school inclusion, or you may be an experienced SEND teacher ready to take the next step into a broader leadership role. What matters most is not your current title, but your values, your professional judgement, and your belief in what children with SEND can achieve.
This role will suit someone who:
  • is a skilled, committed teacher and values being in the classroom
  • holds high aspirations for pupils with SEND and removes barriers rather than lowering expectations
  • understands and lives the SEND Code of Practice, including co‑production with families and outcome‑focused provision
  • sees inclusion as a whole‑school endeavour
  • leads with calm authority, compassion and clarity
  • wants to make a lasting difference to children, families and school culture

Why Burrough Green and ACT?
Because this is the best of both worlds:
  • a small school where relationships truly matter and your leadership will be felt every day
  • a Trust that invests in professional learning, collaboration and inclusion
  • a chance to build something meaningful, supported by a wider network of expertise and shared values

Key dates
  • Application deadline: Tuesday 12 May
  • Shortlisting: Wednesday 13 May
  • Interviews: Week beginning Monday 18 May

If you are looking for a role that is deeply purposeful — one where you can lead inclusion, teach, collaborate, and genuinely change outcomes for children and families — we would love to hear from you.

Burrough Green CofE Primary Academy would like all candidates to answer specific questions for the personal statement section. For reference, here is a preview of the questions/headings:

  1. 1. What does inclusion mean to you in practice, not just in principle?
  2. 2. How would you establish an ERB culture where pupils feel they belong to the whole school, not a separate provision?
  3. 3. This role combines leadership of the ERB with a teaching commitment in the main school. How do you see those two elements strengthening each other?
  4. 4. How do you ensure high expectations for pupils with Autism while adapting teaching to meet individual needs?
  5. How would you work with teachers and support staff to build shared ownership of inclusion across the school?
  6. Can you describe how you use the assess–plan–do–review cycle to improve outcomes, not just meet statutory requirements?
  7. How do you build strong, trusting partnerships with parents and carers, particularly when conversations are complex or emotional?
  8. What would your priorities be in the first term if you were appointed to lead a new ERB?
  9. How do you ensure that support for pupils with SEND leads to independence and participation, rather than dependency?
  10. What draws you to this role at ACT, and how do our values align with your own practice and leadership?
