About this Role

At Serenity School Maidstone, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Nurture to lead our Nurture Pathway. This is a unique opportunity to join our extended leadership team and shape high-quality provision for pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), severe learning needs, Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), and global learning difficulties (GLD).

The Role

As Head of Nurture, you will:

  • Provide effective leadership to the Nurture Faculty, fostering a supportive and reflective team culture.

  • Line manage nurture pathway teachers, embedding specialist approaches such as TEACCH, PECS, Attention Autism, and sensory integration.

  • Drive curriculum planning and personalised learning, ensuring that teaching and assessment address the needs of every pupil.

  • Monitor pupil progress, upholding the highest standards of safeguarding, welfare, and behaviour for learning.

  • Collaborate with therapists, parents, and external professionals to deliver holistic provision aligned with EHCP targets.

  • Coach, mentor, and develop colleagues through CPD and modelling outstanding practice.

What We’re Looking For

  • QTS/QTLS with significant experience in SEND settings.

  • A proven track record of working with pupils with severe and complex needs, SLCN, and GLD.

  • Expertise in nurture-based pedagogy and specialist teaching strategies.

  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills to inspire and motivate staff.

  • A strong commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, and the wellbeing of pupils.


Desirable: Knowledge of the Equals curriculum and previous middle leadership experience.
