About this Role

Job Purpose 

To work within the Early Help Team, under the direction of the Headteacher liaising closely with the SENDCO and Trust Safeguarding & Family Support Manager to identify pupils at risk and supporting pupils and their families once identified. To also include Pastoral and Academic interventions.

Main Duties and responsibilities:

Attendance, family support, Safeguarding to also include pastoral and academic mentoring of pupils

·         To support the current Early Help, Pastoral and Attendance structure.

·         To work with identified link Primary schools to support Early Help work.

·         To support with Early Help Assessments and Interventions.

·         To undertake DSL training and/or a commitment to maintain current DSL knowledge.

·         Attend and contribute to monthly DSL safeguarding meetings.

·         Support the Headteacher and DSLs by arranging, leading and attending meetings associated with child protection and early help.

·         Refer, with support from the Lead DSL, cases to social services of suspected abuse.

·         To support with the caseload of students referred within the school for a variety of reasons. The work includes family consultation and support, liaison with external agencies and partnership working with school and other statutory partners.

·         Provide ongoing support, advice and guidance to enable key pupils to maintain high attendance and to access an appropriate curriculum.

·         To provide bespoke pastoral and academic mentoring for key pupils and groups of pupils as required.

·         Monitor the impact and effectiveness of support and act when issues arise.

·         Work with key disengaged pupils and their families and develop specific interventions to encourage re-engagement.

·         To provide emotional and practical support to families, working with their teacher and other health and social care professionals to provide early help interventions.

·         Act on the monitoring of attendance and support action to tackle low attendance including development of initiatives to reduce absence.

·         Ensure families and carers are kept informed of the individual action plans to support and encourage their active participation in the process.

·         Provide regular opportunities to monitor the progress of individual children and young people and help empower families and carers to resolve issues they may have.

·         Work closely with others in the school or external services to set targets, agree action and evaluate outcomes.

·         Work closely with other local schools within the local cluster.

·         Attend and participate in pastoral and attendance meetings as required.

·         Provide relevant reports/analysis in preparation for meetings.

·         Maintain student files and filing.

·         Attend home visits to provide ongoing family support.

·         Work towards fulfilling the academy commitment to a high quality of service and will promote and embody the academy ethos.

 

General

·         Attend and participate in staff and working group meetings and training as appropriate.

·         Adhere to work practices and policies including those relating to Equal Opportunities.

·         Any other duties requested by the Headteacher

·         Work in line with statutory safeguarding guidance (e.g. Keeping Children Safe in Education, Prevent) and our safeguarding and child protection policies

·         Promote the safeguarding of all pupils in the school

·         To undertake tasks of a similar nature and level, as directed by the Headteacher.
