About the Role
We
are seeking a compassionate, skilled, and motivated Wellbeing & Emotional
Coach to join our school community, supporting students’ emotional, social, and
mental wellbeing as part of our whole‑school safeguarding and inclusion
approach.
In
line with the Education White Paper 2026, this role places a strong emphasis on
early intervention, resilience‑building, and integrated support. The successful
candidate will work directly with students who may be experiencing emotional
distress, anxiety, disengagement from learning, or wider vulnerability, helping
them to build coping strategies and access appropriate support at the right
time.
You
will be a key member of the HELP Team, working closely with the Safeguarding
Team, pastoral leaders, SENCO, external agencies, and parents/carers to remove
barriers to learning and promote positive attendance, wellbeing, and
engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Student
Emotional Support
- Deliver 1:1
wellbeing sessions for students experiencing emotional, social, or mental‑health
challenges.
- Facilitate small‑group
interventions focused on resilience, emotional literacy, confidence, and
healthy relationships.
- Use coaching,
mentoring, and therapeutic‑informed approaches to help students develop
practical coping strategies.
- Provide short‑term,
non‑clinical supportive listening, recognising when escalation or referral
to counsellors, CAMHS, or other services is required.
Safeguarding
& Early Intervention
- Work closely
with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) to identify students at risk
and deliver timely wellbeing interventions.
- Contribute to
Early Help plans, safeguarding assessments, and multi‑agency meetings as
appropriate.
- Maintain high
standards of record‑keeping, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with
statutory guidance and school policy.
- Act immediately
on safeguarding concerns, following school procedures at all times.
Whole‑School
Wellbeing Development
- Support the
development and delivery of the school’s whole‑school wellbeing strategy.
- Contribute to
staff training and awareness, including trauma‑informed practice and
emotional wellbeing.
- Promote a
culture of emotional safety, openness, and positive relationships across
the school.
- Assist with
wellbeing initiatives, assemblies, PSHE contributions, and mental‑health
events.
Partnership
& Liaison
- Build effective
relationships with parents/carers, social care, counselling services, and
mental‑health professionals.
- Signpost
students and families to appropriate external and community‑based support.
- Work
collaboratively with teaching staff to ensure reasonable classroom
adaptations support emotional and safeguarding needs.
- Provide support
and guidance to Trainee Counsellors working with students and staff in
school.
Monitoring
& Evaluation
- Maintain
accurate, confidential case notes, intervention logs, and impact data.
- Track student
progress and contribute to reports for SLT, governors, safeguarding
panels, and review meetings.
- Support
evaluation of wellbeing provision, ensuring it aligns with school
improvement priorities.
About You
We
are looking for someone who:
- Has experience
supporting children or young people’s emotional wellbeing in an education,
youth, or wellbeing setting.
- Has a strong
understanding of safeguarding, early intervention, and professional
boundaries.
- Is calm,
empathetic, resilient, and able to build trusting relationships with young
people.
- Can work
confidently with families and external agencies.
- Is committed to
inclusive practice and removing barriers to learning.
Relevant
qualifications or training in wellbeing, mental health, youth work, counselling
skills, coaching, or therapeutic practice are highly desirable (but this is a
non‑clinical role).
