About this Role

Head of Year

Chessington School

Garrison Lane, Chessington, Surrey, KT9 2JS

Permanent Position

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic , inspiring and ambitious Head of Year to work in close partnership with the Senior Leadership Team ensuring that everyone is valued, every day an opportunity and every moment focused on success. You will be crucial in ensuring our pastoral provision allows every student to flourish every day.

This is more than a pastoral role.

It is a high-impact middle leadership post for a teacher who wants to develop as a leader, drive improvement and make a measurable difference to students’ outcomes. You will lead the culture, systems and support around a year group — building strong relationships, raising standards and ensuring every child is known, supported and challenged to succeed.

Working closely with Senior Leaders, you will be trusted to take ownership of key priorities and given support to grow your leadership practice. This includes opportunities to contribute to and lead strategic projects linked to student outcomes, such as attendance, behaviour, belonging, wellbeing, personal development and family engagement.

If you are the kind of leader who combines warmth with rigour, sees barriers and acts early, and believes deeply in the potential of every young person, we would love to hear from you.

This is a unique opportunity to join a community of staff striving to create a truly great comprehensive school.

The successful candidate will:

  • Is reflective, with a constant drive to improve
  • Is a versatile professional who is flexible in their operational and strategic outlook
  • Is proactive in removing barriers and preventative work
