About this Role

Headteacher: Leadership scale LS18-24

Vacancy Hours: Full Time

Contract Type: Permanent

Start Date: September 2026

The Yorkshire Learning Trust is seeking to appoint an outstanding professional to lead Sherburn Hungate Primary School. This is an exciting opportunity for a forward-thinking leader to build upon the foundations of a successful school and drive its next phase of development.

Sherburn Hungate is a growing school rooted in its community. Fantastic things happen in our school every day.

You will have successful previous experience of school leadership, with a commitment to high academic standards, social cohesion and the development of the whole child. You will be an excellent communicator, have a warm personality and be an unfailing advocate for excellence in all.

Our pupils are inquisitive, enthusiastic and a delight to spend time with.

As the local community undergoes a period of exciting growth, the school is positioned to expand its influence, benefiting from the increased resources and opportunities this evolution brings. For the right leader, this role offers the chance to steer a thriving primary school toward even greater heights while deeply embedding its unique community culture.

As a key member of our rapidly evolving Yorkshire Learning Trust, you will play a significant role in our collective future. Working in close partnership with fellow Headteachers, our School Improvement Team, and the CEO, you will contribute to a unified mission: doing the right thing for every child and young person in our care.

You will lead a talented, highly motivated staff team who consistently challenge their own practice to ensure our pupils achieve their highest aspirations. At Sherburn Hungate, we pride ourselves on an ‘everybody a leader’ culture—providing a sophisticated environment for professional learning and career development.

We are dedicated to supporting our staff with a comprehensive package of opportunities, incentives, and benefits designed to enhance your well-being and career growth. These include:

At Yorkshire Learning Trust (YLT), the safeguarding of children is paramount. We are committed to creating a safe and nurturing environment for all. As part of our commitment, successful candidates will undergo DBS checks, pre-employment checks, and online searches, all conducted with professionalism and respect for your privacy. We champion equality and ensure fair and equitable treatment for every member of our team.
