Rushy Meadow Primary Academy is seeking a committed and skilled Hearing Support Teaching Assistant to join our Hearing Resource Base. This is a rewarding opportunity to support a deaf pupil 1:1 in our mainstream setting, helping them to access learning through a Total Communication approach, including the use of British Sign Language (BSL) and Signed Supported English (SSE).

    • Provide BSL/SSE interpretation for signing pupils during lessons, assemblies and school events.
    • Adapt spoken and/or signed communication to meet individual needs.
    • Assist with specialist equipment, including daily checks of listening devices and preparation of visual/radio aids.
    • Deliver targeted interventions such as speech and language activities.
    • Support pupils both 1:1 and in small groups, promoting independence and positive engagement.
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of Individual Educational Plans (IEPs).
    • Record and monitor pupil progress, feeding back to teachers and SENCo.
    • Promote inclusion, positive behaviour, cooperation and confidence in all pupils.
    • Liaise with parents, carers and external professionals when required.
    • Support the wider school community and actively contribute to the ethos and aims of the academy.

Safeguarding is central to this role. You will be expected to remain vigilant, follow all safeguarding procedures and demonstrate a commitment to keeping children safe.

We are looking for someone who has:

    • Strong communication skills with children and adults.
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
    • Ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to changing situations.
    • Motivation to inspire pupils and support their learning and development.
    • NVQ Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent experience) is desirable.
    • Experience supporting children in a school or learning environment.
    • Experience working with deaf children or an understanding of deafness and language development.
    • Knowledge of the national curriculum and learning programmes.
