Purpose of the job
- To provide high level support to
teachers in the management of pupils’ learning.
Main duties
- Assist with the planning and
delivery of learning activities
- Assist with planning, tuition and
assessment of pupils in all areas of the curriculum
- Assist with the development and
implementation of SEND support plans and personal care programmes
- Deliver and evaluate programmes of
work that meet teaching and learning objectives
- Liaise with the parents and carers
under the direction of the teacher and to maintain a good relationship
with staff and pupils
- Liaise with the class teacher and
other colleagues
- Attend to pupils’ personal needs,
including toileting, health, hygiene, dressing, intimate care, first-aid
and welfare matters
- Work
with individuals or small groups of pupils in the classroom under the
direct supervision of teaching staff and provide feedback to the teacher
- Support
pupils to understand instructions support independent learning and
inclusion of all pupils
- Support
the teacher in behaviour management and keeping pupils on task
- Support
pupils in social and emotional well-being, reporting problems to the
teacher as appropriate
- Perform
any other reasonable tasks requested by the Headteacher or teachers
Other duties
- Help with the preparation of
classrooms, displays and preparing materials in advance and to clear away
after activities
- Assist in stock and equipment
management and carry out photocopying and other general office duties as
required
- Accompany teachers and pupils on
out-of-school activities and take responsibility for a group, under the
direction of a teacher
- Administer routine assessments and
tests
- Prepare and clear up learning
environment and resources, including photocopying, filing and the display
and presentation of pupils work and contribute to maintaining a safe
environment.
- To monitor central/shared resource
areas to maintain a safe and tidy environment
- Share in playground duties
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Working at or towards national
occupational standards (NOS) in Supporting Teaching and Learning (core and
relevant optional units as required) reflected in the level 2 NVQ and
Level 2 certificate in supporting teaching and learning on the
Qualification and Credit Framework or equivalent experience
- Carries out allocated tasks under
the supervision of a teacher, problems generally referred
- Communicates with pupils to support learning and development and encourage accetable behaviour. Exchanges information with staff, parents/Carers.
- Knowledge and compliance with policies and procedures relevant to child protection and health and safety.
- Setting up and use of educational equipment and/or keyboard skills.
Additional duties
From
time-to-time, supervise whole classes during the short-term absence of a
teacher or agreed class cover.
