About this Role

The role of the  Chair of Governors is to lead the members of the local academy committee to achieve effective governance .  The Chair regularly liaises with the headteacher to build and develop a professional relationship.  The Chair also receives pertinent information relating to educational leadership from either the Trust or members of the school's senior leadership team.   Responsibilities of the Chair include representing the school or Trust at school events, meeting with Ofsted or other professional bodies and ensuring that governors act within the powers delegated to them to work as a team.

Applicants should have previous experience of being a Chair or Vice Chair of a governing body or other leadership experience in either a professional or voluntary role. Most importantly, you should have the time and the commitment to undertake the role.  Meetings with the headteacher take place during school hours for approximately one hour (frequency to be decided between the Chair and the headteacher).  Local academy committee meetings take place in the late afternoon once per term and last for up to 2 hours.  You will be expected to contribute to and attend the termly Chair's Forum meetings which last for up to 2 hours where you will meet and be supported by the governance professionals and your fellow Chairs and Vice Chairs.  You need to be a good communicator and effective listener, be diplomatic and have good team working abilities.  You should also be focussed and analytical with the ability to organise your time effectively.

St James Infant Academy is an inclusive and nurturing school which holds the values of Respect, Kindness, Inclusion and Teamwork at the heart of everything  it undertakes.  The school sits at the heart of the community, with strong connections to the families and local area it serves.

INMAT is a multi academy trust based in Northamptonshire with 13 great primary schools working together to make a difference whose strength lies in the common purpose of high aspirations, moral values and care and support, whilst celebrating individual uniqueness.
