Applications welcomed from ECTs and more experienced candidates

Heathside Walton-on-Thames, an Ofsted-rated Outstanding school, is entering an exciting phase of growth, and we are delighted to offer the opportunity for a dedicated Teacher of Science to join our thriving Science faculty. We are looking for an enthusiastic scientist who is passionate about helping students understand the workings of the natural world—from the microscopic to the cosmic.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys bringing Science alive: conducting high-quality practical investigations, exploring cutting-edge scientific ideas, and inspiring students to understand the role of science in shaping society, technology, and the future of our planet. Our science department promotes hands-on learning, rigorous scientific thinking, and a strong emphasis on experimental skills. Students are encouraged to ask questions, test ideas, interpret evidence, and develop a secure understanding of key concepts across biology, chemistry, and physics.

As a valued member of our science team, you will benefit from:

•    Opportunities to shape and develop the department: Play a central role in strengthening our provision across the science disciplines as the school continues to grow.

Career growth and development: Access to high-quality CPD, mentorship, and clear routes for progression.

A meaningful impact on young people: Help develop scientifically literate, critically minded young people equipped to understand and respond to major scientific challenges—from health and disease to climate change, energy, and technological innovation.

We strongly encourage interested candidates to arrange an informal tour of the school. Experiencing our modern laboratories, dynamic learning spaces, and passionate staff team is the best way to understand our ethos. To arrange a visit, please contact the Head of School, Mr Clark, via email at smcgonigal@heathsidewalton.org.

The successful candidate will:

Teach Science confidently across Key Stages 3 and 4, delivering engaging lessons rooted in secure scientific knowledge

Bring concepts in biology, chemistry, and physics to life through practical work, investigation, modelling, and real-world applications

Plan creative, carefully structured lessons that develop students’ working scientifically skills—hypothesis testing, data analysis, evaluation, and drawing evidence-based conclusions

Use effective assessment strategies to support progress in scientific understanding, practical skills, and disciplinary knowledge

Differentiate teaching to ensure all learners—from emerging scientists to high-attaining students—can access, enjoy, and excel in   Science

Contribute to a rich extracurricular programme, such as STEM clubs, science competitions, trips, guest speakers, or project-based learning opportunities

We are deeply proud of the welcoming, aspirational culture we have built. With outstanding staff retention, this role forms part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring that every class is taught by a subject specialist as we continue to grow.

The role of Head of Learning is also currently being advertised, if you would be interested in this additional role please indicate your interest on your application.

Closing date: Monday 2nd February 2026 at Midday

Interviews: Week commencing 9th February 2026

Applications will be considered as they are received. We reserve the right to make an appointment prior to the closing date.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting child welfare. Applicants must undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and Enhanced DBS disclosure with Children’s Barred List check.
