About this Role

The Batt School, St Mary’s Infants, Witney and The Oxford Diocesan Schools’ Trust (ODST) are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and preventing extremism; all staff must ensure that the highest priority is given to following the guidance and regulations to safeguard children and young people. The successful candidate will be required to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and obtain any other statutorily required clearance. Employment will also be conditional on the receipt of at least two acceptable references (1 from current/latest employer) and evidence of the formal qualifications required for the role. Online searches will be undertaken at shortlisting stage.

We are looking for a reliable, practical and enthusiastic Caretaker to work across The Batt School and St Mary’s Infant School in Witney. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in ensuring that our schools are safe, welcoming and well-maintained environments for our children, staff and visitors.

About the role
Working under the guidance of the School Business Manager and Executive Headteacher, you will take responsibility for the security, maintenance and cleanliness of the schools’ buildings and grounds. The role is varied and includes:

  • Locking/unlocking and ensuring site security
  • Carrying out and recording regular health & safety checks
  • Completing minor repairs and maintenance
  • Overseeing contractors on site
  • Supporting with cleaning, lettings and emergency situations
  • Maintaining safe pathways and outdoor spaces throughout the year

About you
We are looking for someone who is:

  • Practical and confident in carrying out repairs and maintenance
  • Knowledgeable (or willing to learn) about health & safety, COSHH and site security
  • Self-motivated, flexible and able to manage their own workload
  • A team player who can relate well to children, staff and visitors
  • Committed to keeping our schools safe, clean and welcoming

Previous caretaking or site-keeping experience is desirable, but training will be provided. A willingness to develop new skills is essential.

We can offer you:

  • A supportive and friendly school community
  • Opportunities for training and development
  • A varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same

The schools are part of the Oxford Diocesan Schools' Trust, a large multi-academy trust consisting of 43 schools across Oxfordshire and Berkshire.

We reserve the right to interview early should outstanding early applications be received.
