About this Role

St Barnabas Church of England School gives children a wonderful introduction to school life – our EYFS provision is inspiring and children make excellent progress throughout Key Stage One. We are a ‘happy and caring school’, provides all pupils with a ‘strong start’ and there is a real ‘family feel’ to the school (Ofsted, September 2023). Children are known, loved and understood and all adults care and want the very best for every child in our school, having a shared understanding that every child can achieve. Our schools are amazing places to learn and teach!

We are proud of our close links with St Barnabas Church and we also work very closely with Freeman's Endowed Church of England Junior Academy, which is where almost all of our children go for the next stage of their education. Additionally, both schools are led and managed by the same Headteacher and Leadership Team - Our supportive leadership team are highly considerate of staff wellbeing and workload and strive to promote a positive working environment.

We have a unique opportunity for a full-time SENCO to join our family and work closely with our Assistant Headteacher and Inclusion Lead, to help our most vulnerable children flourish. As part of your role, you will spend the morning teaching in our Butterfly Class at St Barnabas, which forms our internal specialist provision while the remainder of your day will be set aside to carry out the SENCO role, supporting children at both St Barnabas and Freeman’s.

We are looking for someone who:

  •  Has experience of teaching children with complex SEND needs
  • Holds either the NASENCO or NPQ SENCO qualification, or currently be working towards this
  • Ensures all children feel safe, happy and able to learn
  • Has an understanding of the curriculum and pastoral needs of primary aged children
  • Is able to deliver high quality first teaching
  • Is confident in using a range of behaviour management strategies
  • Has the ability to work effectively, flexibly and independently and above all is a committed team member
  • Is supportive of the ethos of a Church and Trust school

In return, we can offer you:

  • A welcoming and caring school, that encourages everyone to give their best at all times, that aims to contribute all they can to our life as a school community
  • A collaborative and supportive school community that is underpinned by the Christian ethos, driven by a shared passion of children’s welfare and education
  • Excellent CPD opportunities
  • A rewarding and exciting working environment, that inspires and challenges within a supportive and welcoming atmosphere.
  • Access to a vast array of employee benefits and recognition systems, via our partnership with Vivup
