About this Role

We are recruiting for a Caretaker at Abbey CE Academy, based in Daventry, Northamptonshire.

About the role

37 hours per week, 52 week year round contract, full time and permanent role.

This is a key role within a DRET Academy to ensure that there is a safe and legal environment for all students, staff and visitors. The post holder will be primarily responsible for Site Management, Contractor Control, Statutory Testing, Health & Safety Management, Building Maintenance and Security and Asset Management. The post holder will work closely with the Principal and Senior Leadership Team to ensure a well-maintained learning environment for our students.

The ability to travel to another local DRET school would be advantageous.

Works within and complies with policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, child protection, health, safety and security, equal opportunities, confidentiality and data protection.

· Works within clear guidelines or procedures but can make some non-routine decisions. Advice and guidance from senior staff/manager is generally available.

· Ensure that buildings and the site are secure, including during out of academy hours and take remedial action if required

· Act as the designated key holder for the academy premises

· Operate and regularly check systems such as heating, cooling, lighting and security (including CCTV and alarms

· Undertake minor repairs (i.e. not requiring qualified craftsperson) and maintenance of the buildings and site

· Arrange emergency repairs

· Arrange regular maintenance and safety checks

· Oversee onsite maintenance contractors, checking that work is completed to required standards and within required timescale

 Who we are looking for

  • Good numeracy, literacy and written and verbal communication skills.
  • A willingness to undertake training, both self-nominated and prescribed by the Trust.
  • Ability to perform the physical tasks required by the role including lifting, carrying and pushing various equipment.
  • Good, competent IT skills including the use of E-Mail, Microsoft/Google document suits and web-based Management systems.
  • Good planning and negotiating skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and work as part of a team or individually as required.
  • Ability to comply with Health and Safety regulations to ensure that all duties are carried out safely.
  • Experience or skills in maintenance duties.
  • Ability to understand and apply regulations such as health and safety, manual handling, COSHH, Legionella etc.
  • The ability to operate electrical/mechanical systems.
  • Competent at basic building repairs and maintenance.
