The Role: The Head of Art and Design will lead the department in one of the highest-performing
secondary schools in England, fostering a dynamic and inspiring environment that encourages
creativity, innovation, and excellence in art and design education. This role involves curriculum
development, teaching, and management responsibilities for Year 7 to 11 (GCSE), ensuring that
all students achieve their full potential in courses such as Fine Art, Graphics, Photography,
Product Design, Textiles, and Hospitality and Catering.
Glenmoor and Winton Academies are the highest performing non-selective schools in

Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Management: Provide strategic leadership to the Art and Design
department, ensuring a culture of high standards, creativity, and achievement.
- Curriculum Development: Design and implement a stimulating and forward-thinking
curriculum that meets the needs of all learners, while also reflecting the highest
expectations for academic and artistic success.
- Teaching and Learning: Lead by example in delivering high-quality teaching that fosters
innovation, creativity, and technical skill development. Ensure that all students are
equipped to achieve exceptional outcomes in Art and Design.
- Assessment and Achievement: Monitor and track student progress rigorously, using data
to identify areas for improvement and ensuring high achievement across all key stages
- Staff Development: Support the professional development of Art and Design staff,
promoting a collaborative environment that encourages continuous improvement and
professional growth.
- Extracurricular Enrichment: Lead and support extracurricular opportunities, including
exhibitions, workshops, and clubs, to further enhance the artistic experiences and
achievements of students.
- Facilities and Resources: Oversee the effective use and development of the
department’s facilities, ensuring that students have access to high-quality resources
that support their learning and creativity.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Proven track record of outstanding teaching and leadership in Art and Design.
- A passion for creative education and a commitment to fostering high achievement and
high standards in students.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to inspire both students and staff.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to monitor and use data to improve student outcomes.
- A commitment to the mission of Glenmoor and Winton Academies, with a focus on
preparing students for the best academic institutions and career opportunities.
Desirable:
- previous experience in a leadership role within a school environment.
- Experience of developing successful extracurricular programmes in Art and Design.
- Familiarity with working in an academy setting
