About this Role

Sir Thomas Fremantle School is seeking a calm, compassionate and highly organised School Medical Officer to lead the day-to-day provision of medical care across the school. This vital role focuses on promoting the physical and mental wellbeing of students and staff, providing medical and mental health first aid support, coordinating referrals where appropriate, and working closely with families and external professionals to ensure pupils are safe, supported and able to thrive.

About the role

The School Medical Officer leads and manages the medical room, providing daily care to pupils and responding confidently to medical emergencies. You will oversee healthcare plans, administer medication in line with school procedures and parental consent, maintain accurate and confidential medical records, and ensure medical supplies are safely stored and in date. The role also involves liaising closely with parents, staff and external health professionals, coordinating immunisation sessions, supporting school trips, and contributing to health promotion across the school community.

You will work closely with pastoral staff, Heads of Year and the safeguarding team, sharing relevant information appropriately and responding promptly to safeguarding concerns. Termly reporting on accidents and health trends, including RIDDOR reporting where required, also forms part of the role.

What we are looking for

We are keen to hear from candidates with first aid experience and a strong understanding of child health, wellbeing and safeguarding. You will be highly organised, able to remain calm under pressure, and confident in communicating clearly with pupils, parents, colleagues and external agencies. Experience of working with children in a school setting, administering medication, and maintaining accurate records is highly valued, alongside a commitment to confidentiality, equality and ongoing professional development.
