Hitchin Boys’ School (HBS) is a high achieving, all ability, single sex school with over 1,300 students on roll. In collaboration with our partner schools, we have a mixed sixth form. Our history stretches back nearly 400 years, but we embrace fresh thinking and a modern, vibrant curriculum. We have high expectations, excellent standards of behaviour and pride in our extra-curricular activities that lead to academically successful and well-rounded students, who are well equipped for life beyond school.
We have an exciting opportunity to join the HBS team as a Medical Needs Officer. The role leads the medical provision at Hitchin Boys’ School, providing daily care to students, staff and visitors and responding confidently to medical issues and emergencies.
You will oversee healthcare plans, administer
medication in line with school procedures and parental consent, maintain
accurate and confidential medical records, and ensure medical supplies are
safely stored and up to date. The role
also involves liaising closely with parents, staff and external healthcare
professionals, coordinating immunisation sessions, supporting school trips, and
contributing to health promotion across the whole school community.
Internally you will work closely with pastoral staff, the safeguarding team and school caterers, sharing relevant information appropriately and responding promptly to safeguarding concerns. Termly reporting on accidents, injuries, near misses and health trends, including RIDDOR reporting where required, also forms part of the role.
What we are looking for?
We are keen to hear from candidates with first aid experience and a strong understanding of child health, wellbeing and safeguarding. You will be highly organised, able to remain calm under pressure, and confident in communicating clearly with pupils, parents, colleagues and external agencies. Experience of working with children in a school setting, administering medication, and maintaining accurate records is highly valued, alongside a commitment to confidentiality, equality and ongoing professional development.
If this sounds like you and you are enthusiastic to gain experience in a high performing school, then we would be delighted to hear from you.
