About this Role

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and passionate apprentice to join the team at St. George’s CE Primary Academy, Newtown. This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to begin a career in physical education and school sport, gaining valuable qualifications alongside practical, hands-on experience within a supportive school environment.

This role will suit someone with a genuine passion for engaging children, young people, and families through sport and physical activity, and who is inspired by our vision of helping every child flourish. You will develop the skills to coach to a high standard, using sport as a vehicle to build confidence, promote wellbeing, and make a meaningful difference in pupils’ lives.

Through high-quality training and mentoring, you will grow your knowledge and experience, developing an understanding of the school curriculum and how to deliver engaging, inclusive PE lessons. You will also have opportunities beyond the classroom, contributing to community-based and inter-school sporting activities, helping children stay active while having fun.

At St. George’s, we are committed to recruiting for character as well as potential. We are looking for someone who is driven, hardworking, and motivated to succeed; someone who enjoys working with children and is keen to make a positive contribution to our diverse Newtown community. With these qualities, we will support you to develop and thrive throughout your apprenticeship.

You will work alongside experienced staff, including teachers and sports leaders, to deliver a wide range of engaging physical activities. Our broad definition of “sport” includes all forms of physical activity that promote fitness, wellbeing, and positive relationships. Your experience may include supporting breakfast clubs, after-school clubs, PE lessons, school events, sports days, competitions, trips, and enrichment activities—helping to create a vibrant and active school community.

Fixed-term contract for the duration of the apprenticeship.

We are open to the right person completing one of the following:

Level 2 Community Activator Coach apprenticeship

Level 4 Sports Coach apprenticeship

Level 5 TA/Sports Coach apprenticeship
