About this Role

St John’s and St Peter’s C of E Primary School
Ladywood, Birmingham

St John’s and St Peter’s is a one-form entry Church of England primary school with warmth, ambition and a strong sense of purpose. Our Christian vision - placing God’s love in action so that children flourish, culture is transformed and community thrives - shapes how we lead, teach and serve.

We are seeking an exceptional Deputy Headteacher to join us at an important stage in our development.

Why This Role Matters

Strong foundations are in place. The next phase requires disciplined implementation, clarity and unwavering focus on standards. This is not a maintenance role. It is a strategic leadership opportunity to shape teaching, strengthen systems and embed a culture where excellence is the norm. The Deputy Headteacher will play a central role in ensuring classrooms are calm and ambitious, expectations are consistently applied, and every child - particularly the most disadvantaged - receives an excellent education.

We are looking for a leader who combines strategic thinking with operational precision, and high standards with compassion.

The Role

The Deputy Headteacher will:

  • Drive excellence in teaching and curriculum across the school
  • Lead and develop middle leaders with clarity and accountability
  • Secure strong systems for assessment and standards
  • Champion inclusive provision and high expectations for all pupils
  • Model calm, principled leadership rooted in integrity and professionalism
  • Contribute strategically to whole-school improvement
  • Deputise fully for the Headteacher, ensuring effective day-to-day leadership

This is a visible leadership role - in classrooms, coaching colleagues and shaping direction.

Our Commitment

At St John’s and St Peter’s, commitment runs both ways. We are committed to:

  • Building a strong professional culture where adults champion one another
  • Living out our Christian vision in practical, everyday ways
  • Serving our Ladywood community generously and faithfully
  • Protecting staff wellbeing and minimising unnecessary workload
  • Providing high-quality coaching and professional development
  • Leading with honesty, consistency and integrity
  • Working in partnership with the Trust and its network of experience leaders

This is a school where children are known and valued, expectations are high, and leadership is rooted in service.

Prospective candidates are warmly encouraged to visit and experience our culture first-hand.
