About this Role

Join Our Team at The Sele School – Learning Support Officer (H4)

We are looking for a compassionate, proactive, and dedicated Learning Support Officer to join our vibrant and inclusive school community. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of young people by supporting their learning, well-being, and behaviour both in and out of the classroom. This role is for a fixed term contract of 1 year. Working hours are 32.5 per week, 9am - 4pm with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break.

About the Role:
As a Learning Support Officer, you will play a key role in supporting our pastoral and teaching teams in promoting positive behaviour and student engagement. Your focus will be on helping students to overcome barriers to learning, managing low-level disruptions, and offering targeted pastoral and emotional support. You will also work closely with staff and external agencies to ensure a joined-up approach to student care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide in-class and 1:1 support for students with behavioural, emotional, or social needs.
  • Work with students during unstructured times to maintain a calm and positive environment.
  • Support behaviour management strategies, restorative conversations, and mentoring.
  • Assist with safeguarding and well-being initiatives.
  • Liaise with parents, carers, and external professionals as needed.
  • Act as a trusted adult and role model for students.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with young people in an educational or pastoral setting.
  • Demonstrates strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
  • Can build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • Has knowledge of safeguarding procedures and SEND.
  • Is an excellent communicator and a committed team player.

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Experience in mentoring, youth work, TA or behaviour support roles.
  • Training in Restorative Practices, Trauma-Informed Approaches, or behaviour support strategies.

Why Join The Sele School?
The Sele School is a welcoming and supportive environment where staff are committed to providing the best opportunities for our students. This is an exciting time to join us as we continue to grow and develop our pastoral support services.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The role is subject to enhanced DBS clearance and relevant pre-employment checks.

Applications must be made using the school application form (CVs, or applications made using any other format, will not be accepted) and should be emailed to hr@sele.herts.sch.uk for the attention of Madeline Genovese, to be considered for interview. Unfortunately, we are unable to sponsor applicants from overseas
