About this Role

We are seeking to appoint a Learning Coach on a fixed-term contract (to 31st August 2027 initially). You will be joining an experienced and highly committed team providing support to teaching staff in the education, care and welfare of students with learning or physical difficulties.

Good levels of numeracy and literacy (GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths) and IT skills are required. Previous experience is desirable but not essential. A team player with patience, understanding and a willingness to develop is needed. This is a fixed-term, term time (plus one week) position and working hours are 8:35am-2:55pm (29.6 hours per week) with a 25-minute unpaid break. Requests for part time hours will be considered.

We are a welcoming, caring and supportive working environment and high priority is given to the wellbeing of our staff and students. In addition, we offer:

  • A generous pension scheme for support staff
  • Access to a Cycle to Work scheme
  • An active Staff Wellbeing Committee with numerous enrichment activities on offer
  • On-site free parking
  • A wellbeing day per academic year (prorated for part timers)
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme and 24/7 virtual GP service
  • All requests for flexible working will be considered

We pride ourselves on our ethos and culture which promotes positive relationships and behaviour. In our most recent Ofsted report (Nov 2022), inspectors observed that ‘“Lessons are calm and purposeful and led by knowledgeable, passionate teachers. Pupils show dedication to learning and pay close attention to their teacher’s instruction”’.

Robert May’s School, which dates from 1694, is a high attaining and oversubscribed 11-16 Academy school with a distinctive ethos based on the charitable principles of our founder. We would welcome the opportunity for an informal discussion or visit. Please contact Lisa Shackleton, HR Manager for further information or to arrange a visit.

An online search will be conducted for all shortlisted candidates to identify any past or current incidents or issues that might affect your suitability to work with children and undertake this role. This is in line with guidance in Keeping Children Safe in Education.

Interviews will take place as soon as possible. Please note that the school reserves the right to interview on receipt of applications, and to appoint prior to the deadline, so early application is recommended.
