About this Role

The University of Kent Academies Trust (UKAT) is looking for a qualified counsellor to join our team and provide a professional, confidential counselling service for students.

Working closely with the Inclusion team, the school counsellor will play a key role in supporting students' wellbeing and demonstrating excellence in counselling practice.

This is a 15-hour-per-week, term-time-only role and  based at Chatham Grammar. However, as a UKAT Counsellor, you may occasionally be required to work at our sister school, Brompton Academy.

The ideal candidate will hold a Diploma in Counselling, be BACP accredited and registered (or equivalent), and be committed to delivering high-quality, school-based mental health support.

The successful applicant will be coming to a multi-academy trust wide supportive learning environment, characterised by open leadership, and in the knowledge that they will enjoy the full support and care of the pragmatic (and down to earth) leadership team. We have a dynamic, innovative team of professional staff who want to make a difference to the lives, aspirations and opportunities of our young people. We would encourage applicants to visit the UKAT website to view the many employee benefits on offer https://www.universityofkentacademiestrust.org.uk/careers-with-ukat

Chatham Grammar offers its students a wide variety of educational opportunities with a commitment to ensuring that its students achieve good educational outcomes, develop healthy minds and aspire to be happy confident young women ready to embark on a variety of aspirational careers. It benefits from being part of the University of Kent Academies Trust and has a current Ofsted rating of Good.  Chatham Grammar is proud of its comprehensive website and would encourage applicants to visit for further information http://www.chathamgrammar.org.uk/

How to Apply

Your application should be made after reading the job description and person specification, and you will use the application to tell us how your current skills and experience fit the requirements and why you think you would be suited to this role. CVs will not be accepted.

We are keen to attract top talent to our inclusive Trust, and therefore, we welcome applications from all people across the community spectrum regardless of their race, religion, ethnicity, sexuality, sexual orientation, disability, gender reassignment or age.

The University of Kent Academies Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

In addition, the Trust will carry out an online search once as part of our due diligence on shortlisted candidates. This is intended to help us identify any incidents or issues that have happened and are publicly available online. The selection panel will then explore such items with the candidate during interview. The Trust’s HR Team or another member of staff trained in safer recruitment will use Google.com to conduct each search, and no adverse judgement will be formed for applicants with limited or no online footprint.
