Are you interested in becoming a teacher, but lack teaching experience? Or, are you looking for a rewarding career working with young people?

If you wish to become a teacher, Sir John Lawes School has a fantastic opportunity for you to gain classroom experience before you commence your training. We also welcome applications from those who wish to make a difference to our young people’s education.

We are looking for a Cover Supervisor to join our talented support staff team and provide cover for pre-prepared lessons for classes of up to 30 students in the absence of teaching staff. You will also assist Heads of Year in their pastoral role and provide admin support when cover is not required. Training will be available.

To be successful, you will be a supportive, enthusiastic and reliable colleague. Relevant school experience would be an advantage, as well as a basic knowledge of IT programs.

Sir John Lawes is an outstanding school and we offer a stimulating environment with professional development opportunities for all staff. Our status as a teaching school means our cover supervisors are provided with excellent experience and support for those hoping to move into teaching.

We reserve the right to make an appointment before the closing date, so early applications are encouraged.

Scholars’ Education Trust is an equal opportunities employer. The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Declaration of criminal offences

The trust is required to give you the opportunity to voluntarily declare convictions, cautions, reprimands or final warnings that are not ‘protected’ as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2013 and 2020). You will be provided with a criminal self-declaration form by the school if you are shortlisted for the post. All posts in schools are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. If you are appointed you will be required to have an up to date Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Certificate. The existence of a criminal background does not automatically mean that you cannot be appointed but it may do so.
