About this Role

We are looking to recruit a highly skilled and passionate Assistant Principal who will have responsibility as designated SENCO.

At Humberston Academy we recognise that we have students with diverse and vulnerable needs who require additional support. Our aim is to reduce all barriers to learning to ensure our ambitious curriculum is accessible to all our students as we aspire to achieve ‘Excellence for all’.

We are proud of our established SEND provision and are committed to appointing a dynamic leader with the skillset to lead our dedicated SEND team and work closely with our identified students and their families in line with the SEND code of practice in order to prepare each individual for successful futures.

About our Academy

Humberston Academy is an oversubscribed ‘outstanding’ academy located in an affluent area of North East Lincolnshire. As well as being Ofsted graded outstanding in behaviour and attitudes, we have achieved an outstanding grading in personal development. Humberston Academy achieved ‘World Class Schools’ status in December 2019 and re-accredited in 2022. Humberston Academy continues to deliver incredible opportunities to young people with a specific focus on STEM enrichment and favourable links to the apprenticeships industry as well as traditional route towards higher education.

Humberston Academy has also been appointed as the Teaching School Hub for the local region which will allow all colleagues to access leading edge career professional development in order to enhance the standard of teaching as well as the opportunity to deliver CPD to colleagues locally in our profession.

About the role

To assist the Principal, together with others members of the Senior Leadership Team, in providing effective leadership and management of Humberston Academy. 

To take full SENCO responsibilities.

Provide a role model for the academy in setting professional standards

Promote high expectations of student attainment

Set appropriate challenging targets for all colleagues’ line managed.

Review areas of responsibilities within the Academy Improvement Plan

Prepare for and attend all review meetings with the Principal

Ensure a positive climate for learning is promoted throughout the Academy

Who we are looking for:

Qualified Teacher Status

A strong academic background in a relevant subject

Strong record of CPD

Participation in work with other schools/agencies

Holds or working towards gaining the National SENDCo Award & NPQ SEND accreditation.

Knowledge and understanding of the SEND Code of Practice

Able to use ICT across the curriculum and for administrative purposes.

Demonstrable evidence of high standards of class teaching.

Experience of co-ordinating and developing staff.

Experience of managing teaching resources and a curriculum budget.

Practical understanding of effective teaching and evaluation strategies.

OFSTED awareness.
