About this Role

Full-time or part-time

1 year fixed-term

Start date:                      1st September 2026

Salary:                               Band E

Working pattern:       Monday to Friday,  8am – 4pm (Mon- Thurs), 8am – 3.30pm (Fri)

43 weeks per year (term time including all inset days and extra days for training, parent consultations, departmental meetings and additional out of hours commitments as identified by the Senior Leadership Team).

We are looking for a passionate, enthusiastic and skilled Teacher or Instructor of Hair and Beauty to deliver the highest level of teaching & learning for our aspirational students. We have a thriving cohort of Hair & Beauty students, with eight groups across Key Stage 4 for September 2026. The passion for this subject is nurtured in a very popular lunchtime club for Key Stage 3 students.

The post becomes available initially as a one-year fixed term provision, to cover the maternity leave of the current postholder. The growth of the course across our other three Trust schools makes this an exciting opportunity to be part of the wider development of the subject across the Trust.

The ability to teach Hair and Beauty is essential, as is the ability to inspire and motivate our learners. This post is open to both those with qualified teacher status and those with other relevant vocational qualifications.

This is an excellent opportunity for a talented individual to join a thriving school:

  • to work with students who are committed to their learning and passionate about their own further professional development
  •  to work in an environment with specialist facilities and equipment
  • to work collaboratively in the development of this subject area across our Trust
  • to work to raise the outcomes for all pupils by inspiring and motivating students and staff alike.

The Hair and Beauty role sits within the Design Technology department, which in every way mirrors the aims and beliefs of the school.  All staff work hard, supported by a committed leadership team, to provide a safe and encouraging environment for learning.  Arden students love to acquire new knowledge and skills.  Our teachers relish the opportunity to deliver engaging, challenging lessons to committed students, supported by caring families.

Applications are welcomed from ECTs, experienced practitioners and professionals in industry who have the skills to adapt to be successful in the school environment.  Outstanding support is provided for ECTs through our very supportive and structured ECT programme. The same support would be provided to colleagues looking to move into the education sector from a career in industry.

The Design Technology department currently has seven full-time and one part-time members of teaching staff, supported by two technicians.  The department collectively provide an excellent level of support and collaborative development through sharing of best practice and an open-door culture.

The opportunity for personal development and progression at Arden is enormous.  An active commitment to staff development through a strong and consistent focus and dialogue around teaching & learning pedagogy makes this an ideal position for candidates committed to being the best practitioners they can be.  The school has an excellent record of success at GCSE, Vocational Level and A Level.

GCSEs - In summer 2025, the school’s Progress 8 score was +0.63 (internally calculated), with an Attainment 8 score of 59.09, which shows the excellent attainment of our school.  72.8% of our students achieved a grade 5 in both English and Maths, with 87.6% achieving this at grade 4.  More than 40% of the GCSE grades awarded were grade 7 and above, with 24.3% being awarded at grade 8 & 9.

A Levels - In 2025 students achieved an average grade of a B. Our average points score of 39.36 demonstrates the excellent outcomes that our students achieve.  35% of grades awarded were A*/A and 67% of grades awarded were A*- B.

In return we can offer you:

A positive and innovative learning culture supported by students, staff, parents and governors.

Enthusiastic students who enjoy learning and engage positively in all aspects of school life.

Access to high quality continuing professional development and the opportunity for personal growth and development.

A collaborative and supportive attitude amongst staff which promotes a sense of teamwork and unity.

A Senior Leadership team who is committed to promoting the best environment and outcomes for staff and students.
